No year has been as tumultuous and full of personal lessons as this one. I've been both happier than ever and at my worst. And though this blog hasn't seen any posts for a while, I have still been sneaking off time from studies and work to game. Here is a list of what I've been up to the last few months.
The Evil Within (1 and 2)

While the first game demands more patience, both of them are amazing horror games that are definitely worth checking out for fans of the genre. 2 also boasts of excellent direction; the ending sequence is right out of a big-budget Hollywood action flick. With a soundtrack to match and the shift to an open-world from the first game, complete with side missions and enhanced character upgrades, TEW 2 was one of the best shooters I played this year.
Telling Lies (2019)

Having loved Her Story, I had high hopes for this one. The story was fun enough, and the experience is an enjoyable one for a single playthrough. Recommended if you're a fan of FMVs and a good mystery. I personally enjoyed The Bunker more than this.
The Sopranos: Road to Respect
(2006)

This forgotten PS2 game based on one of the best shows I watched this year; what could be better? As an added bonus, you get to hear the Sopranos' theme every time you land on the main menu. The graphics are surprisingly good compared to what I expected, and a great amount of work has clearly gone into replicating the Bing. If only the story was as solid. Strictly for fans of the show, you probably won't see the appeal otherwise.
Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015)

Lots of explosions combined with the mystery of immortality surrounding an ancient, not-so-extinct civilization. Exactly what you would expect from a Tomb Raider game, nothing genre-defying. What makes this game stand out is the quality of writing - loved the collectibles so much that I just had to get 100% completion. The graphics are just as amazing as they seem to be.
Tell Me Why (2020)

DontNod gave me one of the best gaming experiences of the year (and I've only played about half of it so far). Spread over three episodes, Tell Me Why explores twins Alyson and Tyler's journey to uncover what really happened in their traumatic past. Oh, and the game also happens to be the first to feature a lead who is a trans man. And they cast a trans man as the voice actor. Go DontNod! So far, it has held its ground and provided an emotionally engaging, visually pleasing experience. Video games are really coming into their own as a medium and this game is a sign of that. We desperately need more of these today.
