ASSASSIN'S CREED 1
The first game of a phenomenally popular series, it didn't get the deserved attention when it was released in 2007. This game was the first of its kind - no one had ever tried to create a game which had an open-world exploration feature based on any historical city.
PLOT:
The story begins with the story of Desmond Miles, a bartender, who is kidnapped by Abstergo Industries, and is forced to relive the memories of his ancestor, Altair, with the help of a machine called the Animus. Abstergo believes that they can get to a powerful artifact- The Apple of Eden -by exploring Desmond's memories and discovering Altair's adventures with the artifact.
Most of the story is about Desmond experiencing his ancestor's memories. He is awoken time and again to take rest and is awoken the next day to continue experiencing Altair's memories. All the while, he is accompanied by Dr. Warren Vidic and his assistant Lucy Stillman.
Later, as the game progresses, Desmond finds out that he is being held by Templars (also, he is hesitant to accept the fact that he is an Assassin). The Assassins are a creed opposed to the tyrannical Templars who wish to control the world through harsh ways.
As far as Altair is concerned, Desmond's ancestor is shown as a rash young man, not one for restrictions. But when this nearly fails a mission and causes the death of a fellow Assassin, he is forced to reconsider. His master, Al-Mualim, offers Altair a chance to climb back on the ranks of the elite Assassins. He names 9 tyrant men of different cities who need to die, all of whom are connected in one way or another, to a hidden enemy. The rest of the story shows Altair assassinating all the men, only to discover that his master, Al-Mualim, is the mastermind behind a greater scheme and has been corrupted by the power of the Apple Of Eden. Altair then puts an end to Al-Mualim and his schemes by assassinating him, and at the same time, Desmond is ripped out the past.
GAMEPLAY:
The setting of Desmond's story takes place in a limited environment- the huge room where he is forced to operate the Animus, and his own room where he occasionally goes to rest. On the other hand, the environment in which Altair's memories take place is quite huge, comprising of several cities of the Holy Land in the late 12th century (Jerusalem, Acre, Masyaf, Damascus....). The surroundings are well described, provided you are able to run the game at its highest settings.
The player is able to climb high points in order to get his bearings, or when being chased by guards, can hide in a number of spots. The player gets 'Desynchronized' if his 'synchronization meter' (similar to a health bar) empties. It can go down due to injury during combat or by falling down from a high point. Other than this, the player is equipped with four weapons - the sword, dagger, throwing knives and the hidden blade.
However, the main drawback with the game is that it tends to get repetitive in nature. In each city you visit, you will be confronted by the same types of missions. Besides this, the game is an excellent choice if one wants to begin playing the Assassin's Creed series. It is a must-play if you are obsessed with knowing the plot of the game before playing Assassin's Creed II.
From my side, I give it a rating of 3.5 out of 5.
The minimum system requirements are:
CPU : Dual core processor 2.6 GHz Intel® Pentium® D or AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 3800+
RAM : 1 GB Windows Xp / 2 GB Windows Vista
GRAPHICS CARD: 256 MB DirectX® 10.0–compliant video card or DirectX 9.0–compliant card with Shader Model 3.0 or higher (NVIDIA GeForce 6800+ / ATI Radeon X1600+)
DX: DirectX 9.0 or 10.0
OS: Windows® XP/Windows Vista® (only)
HDD: 12 GB
and also a DVD-ROM dual-layer drive.
Please ask if you have any doubts on whether this game will work on your PC or not, or if you want some help with the game (troubleshooting etc.).
